Hello, welcome to the jungle. Well, this blog will telling you guys about our visit on simple mini company in Surabaya. This visit is referring to our course in this semester, supply chain management.  Happy reading ^^

Organizations increasingly find that they must rely on effective supply chains, or networks,to compete in the global market and economic networks. Over the last decade,globalization, outsourcing and information technology have enabled many organizations to successfully operate a solid network of collaborative supply in which each specialized business partner focuses on only a few key strategic activities.

To be able to know directly the supply chain business processes, we conducted a field visit to the small and medium scale enterprises associated with the implementation of supply chain management that they may have been applied to the system.

UD Mitra Utama, is a manufacturing company engaged in the manufacture of shoes. This trading business located in Gersikan I, Surabaya. With the scale is not so large, this effort requires only 10-15 people in the process of moving its employees. The company's activities include the manufacture of patterns / designs of shoes, then the cutting is done manually, and then the process of gluing, fitting the pattern, finishing up with a shoe that is then computed for packing and then marketed.

Working closely with suppliers from Jakarta and Bandung, this effort also takes raw materials from areas in Surabaya is Kramatgantung. For suppliers in Surabaya problems may not be easily found because of the company itself that takes the material. So the risk of damaged or missing items are still small

However , for the procurement process from Jakarta and Bandung , the leader of the company , Mr Zainal , admitted a little difficulty in terms of time management , we assume this is the lead time between the ordered goods and the goods came , and the problems in determining the amount to be ordered for the period further . Because of the amount of demand that is up and down and because the company is only engaged in the manufacture of shoes kind of woman , so his request also follows the seasons and the trend is booming .

Although this business is not so great , but still this issue is quite troublesome impact . Especially if it is linked to the process of information delivery and collection .

" Ya ya is quite annoying . But as far as this can be overcome anyway . it is so far so good because it is not stuff that can be expired . so when the demand is less than expected, we're not worry about inventory. the most concerned thing is when the demand is more than expected. we will be lack of inventory.

That response when we asked Mr. Zainal issues related to the impact of the entire supply chain . So can we conclude that the main problem of the Trading Business . Main partners are :

1. Lead time management

2. Forecasting / determination to demand further

3. Management of information and communication with supplier
